BON AIR - John Francis Alexick, 98, of Bon Air, passed away July 20, 2010.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Louise Gibbs Alexick.
He is survived by his son, Dr. David Francis Alexick (Anne) of Newport News; two daughters, Anne-Louise Young (Antony) of Lynchburg and Karen Britton of Bon Air; two granddaughters, Melanie and Meredith Britton.
Mr. Alexick was born in Latrobe, Pa., to Stephen and Elizabeth Patrick Alexick. He was a graduate of the Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing and the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Finance. He worked as an accountant for Wyeth Pharmaceutical Company in Philadelphia. He was superintendent of Nurses at Eastern State Hospital in Williamsburg and worked in hospital administration in Marion, Staunton and Lynchburg, Va., and retired with more than 31 years of satisfying and dedicated service, as Assistant Administrative Services Director at Lynchburg Training School. Mr. Alexick was a Christian gentleman who inspired all who knew him. He encouraged his family to always live by the Golden Rule. He made significant contributions through his time and talent with his church and charitable community organizations, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He loved learning and instilled that in his children and endowed them with good education. He was a man of integrity with a great disposition, whose faith and family were central to his life. He will continue to be an inspiration to all who knew and loved him.
His family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Friday at St. Edward Catholic Church followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 2 p.m. Burial will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Holy Cross Church Cemetery in Lynchburg, Va.
