DANVILLE, Va. - William B. "Bill" Aaron, 88, of 2126 Baxter Street, died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004 at Martinsville Henry County Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 22, 1916, in Callands, Va., he was the son of the late Matthew Lafayette Aaron and the late Gracie Woodall Aaron.
He was a member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church, where he was very active. He taught Sunday School for 50 years and served on the Board of Deacons as well as the Finance Committee.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1942 to 1945, where he was an Infantry Medic in the 85th Infantry Division. He was stationed in North Africa and Italy.
He worked with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring after several years as postal clerk.
He married Lottie Lindsey Aaron on Aug. 18, 1934. She predeceased him April 3, 2002.
He is survived by two sons, William "Bland" Aaron of Troutman, N.C. and Michael K. Aaron of Martinsville; two brothers, M. L. Aaron of Callands and Lindy Aaron of Rondo, Va.; five sisters, Margaret A. Wright of Danville, Virginia A. Eanes of Martinsville, Gloria A. Sizemore of Martinsville, Leone A. Plybon of Martinsville and Barbara A. Kendrick of Martinsville; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by one brother, Kenneth Aaron; and one sister, Louise A. Gregory.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004 at Moffett Memorial Baptist Church in Danville with the Rev. Jeff Wright officiating. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park with military honors by American Legion Dan River Post 1097.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Moffett Memorial Baptist Church, 1026 North Main Street and at other times will be at the residence, 2126 Baxter Street.
Barker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
