Mr. James William Barksdale of Cedar Grove Road, South Boston, died June 18 at Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of 86. Mr. Barksdale was born in Halifax County on Feb. 7, 1924 and was the son of the late Mr. Isaac Barksdale and Mrs. Mildred Edmonds Barksdale.

He was married to the late Mrs. Alice Coleman Barksdale and was a retired employee of Halifax Regional Hospital.

Mr. Barksdale was a member of New Arbor Baptist Church where he served on the board of deacons.

Mr. James William Barksdale is survived by four daughters: Ms. Dorothy Brigham of South Boston, Mrs. Alease Parson of Clinton, Md., Mrs. Sallie Jane Nash of Walkertown, N.C. and Ms. Mildred Ann Williams of Upper Marboro, Md.; two sons-in-law: Mr. Russell Parson and Mrs. James Nash; one sister-in-law: Mrs. Mabel Coleman of Alton; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Barksdale was preceded in death by one son, James W. Barksdale Jr.; one sister, Sallie Palmer; and one brother, Albert Barksdale.

Funeral services for Mr. James William Barksdale will be held Tuesday, June 22, at 1 p.m. with services at New Arbor Baptist Church with the Rev. Nelson Stamps and the Rev. Dwight Wilkerson officiating.

Burial will follow in the Dan River Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 1077 Cedar Grove Road, South Boston.

Funeral arrangements are by Jeffress Funeral Home, North Main Street, South Boston.
