MADISON – Lewis Wiley Barnes, III, 85, of 401 Pinewood Drive, died Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at Moses Cone Hospital.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, October 18, 2013, at Woodland Cemetery with military rites by Rockingham County Honor Guard and North Carolina National Guard.
Mr. Barnes was born March 2, 1928, in Granville County, to the late Lewis W. Barnes, Jr., and Burdeen Brown Barnes. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, was retired from Burlington Industries and was a faithful member of Madison United Methodist Church. Lewis loved his church family and many friends at Bob's and Fuzzy's.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Nash Barnes.
Survivors include daughters, Louise B. Falls (Michael) of Gastonia and Beverley Harris (Roger) of Wilson; brother, Nathan Barnes (Rosaline) of Wallace; grandchildren, Heather Pate (Darrell), Shane Harris, Christian Falls (Bridget) and Amy Harris (Jason) and great-grandchildren, Trevor Falls, Cody Dwy, Justin Harris, Bailey Falls, Josh Harris, Emily Harris, Rhiannon Falls, Rylan Falls, Jackson Pate and Tanner Pate.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m., Thursday, at Colonial Funeral Home.
