SHELBY - Mrs. Essie Lee Addison, 71, of 600 Charles Road, rested from her journey on Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at her home.
She was born May 6, 1938 in Cleveland County to the late Charles Ross and Essie Mae Jackson Williams.
Mrs. Addison was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church and was a homemaker throughout her life. She was a loving mother to all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to cook and take good care of her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James David Addison, Sr.; a son, Gary Darnell Addison; two sisters, Pearly Dorsey and Willie Mae Clemmons; a niece, she raised as a daughter, Chrystal Hopper and a daughter-in-law, Rita Addison.

Left to cherish her memory are three daughters, Linda Addison Hartgrove (Roger), Deborah Addison Flack (Calvin) both of the home, and Sharon Denise Johnson of Lanwdale; six sons, Donald "Duck" Addison of Lawndale, James David Addison of Waco, NC, Eric O'Neal Addison of Gastonia, Melvin Whitworth, of Shelby, and Harold Cunningham of Cleveland, Ohio, and Jackie Cun-ningham of Shelby; three sisters, Marie Ashe of New York, Shirley Mae Parker Banks (Charles) and Annie Dorsey, both of Shelby; one brother, James Montgomery, of Shelby; a cousin whom she raised as a son, Steven Whiteside Byrd, of Shelby; 14 grandchil-dren; 15 great-grandchildren; a special granddaughter, Tamica Addsion; special nieces, Marie Jones and Hope Anne Dorsey, both of Shelby; four close family friends, Robin Ponder, Chenita Bowers, Arbelle Wray and Alma Jean McShaw, all of Shelby and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation: The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service
Funeral: Tuesday, 3 p.m. at Mount Calvary Baptist Church
