Donald Lee Alberts, 66, of San Angelo, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, in Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo after a valiant and determined struggle with cancer. A service to celebrate his life will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Wilkerson officiating. Masonic rites will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Don was born in San Angelo on Sept. 5, 1936, to Jessie and Hiley Elizabeth Alberts. He was married to Bobbie Marie Gibbs on April 30, 1955, in San Angelo. Don retired from Goodyear Proving Grounds and Farmers Mutual Insurance. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. He was Past Master of Masonic Lodge No. 570 and Past Patron of Eastern Star Chapter No. 10 of San Angelo. He was a 32-degree Mason. Don was known affectionately as "Pa" by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Pa had a zest for life that he shared with everyone he met. Pa had a love for his family that could not be measured; and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of his life. His positive attitude toward life will always be remembered and cherished by his family. Don was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Tinnie Alberts, Lorene Alberts and Norma McCleery; and three brothers, Jessie Alberts, Gene Alberts and Charles Alberts. Survivors include Bobbie, his wife of 47 years; one daughter, Patti Pool and husband, Jack, of San Angelo; and two sons, Jerry Alberts and wife, Jeanne, of San Angelo and Donald L. Alberts Jr. and wife, Pam, of Gilbert, Ariz. He is also survived by five grandchildren, JACQUELYN (JACKIE)POOL ARP of San Angelo, James Pool and wife, Heather, of Del Rio, Jacob Lee Alberts and wife, Laura, of San Angelo and Amber Alberts and Donald Lee Alberts III of Gilbert, Ariz.; and three great-grandchildren, Adrianna Alberts of Gilbert, Ariz., Guy Bradley Pool of Del Rio and James Caleb Arp of San Angelo. Other survivors include two sisters, Ann Stegall of Miles and Trula Neighbors of Gilbert, Ariz.; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Pallbearers will be Jim Pool, Jake Alberts, Mire Jirasek, Mark Kirkham, Wiley Shockley and Randy Gibbs. The family wishes to express its most sincere thanks to Dr. Kenneth Rose and Dr. Raj Cheruku. Dr. Rose diagnosed Don's cancer and gently counseled him. Dr. Cheruku cared for Don for more than a year. We thank Dr. Cheruku for his outstanding care and for his friendship, kindness, compassion and never-ending patience.
