Robert W. Abrams(1922 - 2009)
BOILING SPRINGS - Rev. Robert W. Abrams, 87, of 319 N. Main Street, Boiling Springs, died Dec. 31, 2009, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
Rev. Abrams was a native of Rutherford County. He was affiliated with Gardner-Webb University for 23 years and served in a number of administrative positions including director of admissions, director of church relations and registrar. He was a pastor and interim pastor for a number of churches throughout North and South Carolina. He was a member of Boiling Springs Baptist Church where he was a former deacon and served on a number of church committees. He was currently teaching the Bob Abrams Sunday School class. He had been a member of the Boiling Springs Lions Club since 1962 and served as past president for a number of terms.
Rev. Abrams received an Associate in Arts degree from Boiling Springs College (now Gardner-Webb University) in 1942; a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wake Forest College (now Wake Forest University) in 1944 and a Master of Divinity from South-ern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1947.
He was preceded in death by parents Fred Lee Abrams and Sallie Nash Abrams; wife Elva Spake Abrams; and a sister Jessie Roddy.
He is survived by a son, Lee Abrams and wife, Dorothy, of Rutherfordton; daughters Jean A. Haynes of the home, Kay A. Husky of Yokohama, Japan, Mary A. and husband Kenneth Lewis of Cordele, GA; a brother Glenn Abrams and wife, Evelyn, of Rutherfordton; sister Floy Bryant and husband, Edgar, of Rutherfordton; brother in law, James Roddy of Rutherfordton; grandchildren Rick Whitaker and wife, Patti, Chelsey Abrams, Lindy Abrams, Holden Abrams and wife, Whitney, and Marshall Abrams.
Visitation: The family will receive friends Sunday, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Boiling Springs Baptist Church Life Enrichment Center.
Funeral: Monday, at 11 a.m., at Boiling Springs Baptist Church
