Rev. Charles A. Baier Jr.

TROXELVILLE - The Rev. Charles A. Baier Jr., 68, of Troxelville passed away early Tuesday morning, Jan. 4, 2005, at his home.

He was born May 8, 1936, in Baltimore, the son of the late Charles A. Sr. and Mildred Marie (Kirschke) Baier. In 1976, he married the former Marie Bingaman, who survives and is a guest at Penn Lutheran Village, Selinsgrove.

The Rev. Baier attended Baltimore City schools. In 1958, he graduated from Gettysburg College with a bachelor of arts degree and in 1961 graduated from the Lutheran Theological Seminary, Gettysburg.

He served parishes in Rossville, York County, from 1961 to 1967 and at Messiah in York from 1967 to 1974. From 1975 to 1991, the Rev. Baier served at Oak Run Lutheran Parish in western Snyder County and from 1992 to 1994 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Gowen City. He most recently served from 1995 to 2004 in the Millville Lutheran Parish, Millville.

The Rev. Baier also served as historian for the Upper Susquehanna Synod and as president for the York County Ministerium, the West Snyder Ministerium, the Millville Area Council of Churches and the Snyder County Historical Society.

In the 1960s, Pastor Baier wrote for the Lutheran devotional booklet, "Light For Today."
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are one sister and brother-in-law, Constance M. and Arthur W. Davis of Catonsville, Md.

At the Rev. Baier's request, there will be no viewing. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Grace United Church of Christ, Troxelville, with the Rev. John E. Fenton and the Rev. William D. Jones officiating.

Burial will be in Troxelville Union Cemetery.
