MIFFLINBURG Gordon L. Aikey, 76, of 288 N. Eighth St., passed away early Monday morning, Jan. 3, 2011, at his home.

He was born June 2, 1934, in Mifflinburg, a son of the late Aaron and Sabra (Catherman) Aikey. His death breaks a marital union of 57 years to the former Winifred H. Swartz.

Gordon had been employed by Selinsgrove Ford and Philco and retired in 1996 after 36 years of service with Beavertown Weaving.

He was a member of Christ United Lutheran Church, Millmont, where he was very active on the fellowship committee. He also was a member of the Union County Sportsmen's Club, Weikert.

The great joy of Gordon's life was his family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Christy and Buddy Poston, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Bonnie and Tom Greeney, of Mifflinburg; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gordon Jr. and Gail Aikey, of Anchorage, Alaska, and Karl and Melody Aikey, of Mechanicsburg; 10 grandchildren, Jodi Marshall, the Rev. Alison Bowlan, Steven Musser, Adam Schmidt, Brandon Ulrich, Rebecca Aikey, Eric Poston, Matt Aikey, Samantha Cona and Sara Aikey; one great-grandson, Jacob Marshall; one sister, Helen Sauers, of Mifflinburg; and three brothers, William Aikey, of Middleburg, Guy Aikey, of Mifflinburg, and Frank Aikey, of Texas.

He was preceded in death by one son, Jon, in infancy; one sister, Bertha Napp; and one brother, Kenneth Aikey.

Friends and family will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hummel Funeral Home, Middleburg, and from noon to 2 Thursday at Christ United Lutheran Church, Millmont, followed by the funeral at 2 with the Rev. John D. Yost officiating.

Burial will be in Troxelville Union Cemetery.
