Esther Marie Gable, the youngest daughter of Carl Clayton Gable and Mary Alice Akins, was born on September 1, 1937. Esther was the 4th generation of Gables born on Deer Springs Farm (just west of here on Felton Road) .
Esther attended the Felton Primary School located in Felton, Pennsylvania. Esther was an "Honor" student, graduating from Red Lion High School in 1955. She was of the first generation of Gables to attend school beyond the 8th grade. Her interests were in the arts and she was an accomplished vocalist and pianist. She would often speak fondly of her childhood and how much she enjoyed church, school, and her life in Felton.
She spent much time with her mother, Mary, and her Aunt Hazel, Mary's sister, regularly attending Windsor Assembly of God (her mother was a founding member) and spending summer vacation at Maranatha camp grounds (the location of Eastern Bible Institute). It came as no surprise when Esther enrolled in Eastern Bible Institute in 1955. It is there that she met her future husband, John DeNicola, a ministerial student at the same institution. They were married on July 21, 1957 and immediately after the honeymoon moved to Dexter, Maine for their first pastorate.
While Esther did not work outside the home, she endeavored to assist her husband John in the pastorates in any way possible. She typically was the church pianist, soloist, a Sunday School teacher, and a Women's Ministries leader. If they did not have a piano she could be counted on to provide accompaniment with her accordion. Son Mark recalls the whole family cleaning the Easton church on Saturday evenings.
Esther and John started their family in 1958 with the addition of son, John Mark. Another son, Eric Stephen, was added in 1962. The family ministered to six congregations during her life time with their last pastorate in Brave, Pennsylvania in 1971. They moved to Waynesburg, Pennsylvania in 1983 when a new church was built in that town (the church in Brave having been moved). It was there that she would spend the remainder of her life, dying on February 24, 1987 in Morgantown, West Virginia after a prolonged illness. Her husband John died on March 9, 2008 in Hershey, Pennsylvania. They are both buried in Trinity Cemetery.
