His parents and son have graves with the family name spelled "Seely", but on this grave it is spelled "Seeley" Son of James Seely (1760 - 1837) and Ann Nancy Westlake (1762 - 1841). He married Esther Curren. Parents of James H. Seely, who died prematurely at age 1, Dr. N. R. Seely, and John C. Seely, of Elmira.

The funeral services of Wellin Seely, an old resident of Jackson, were attended from the M. E. church in this village on July 4th. The Rev. Dr. Ford, of Elmira, officiated. The deceased was in his eightieth year of his age, and the text selected was as fitting as the sermon delivered was appropriate, namely, “The day of our years are three score years and ten,” etc. (The Agitator, Wellsboro, Pennsylvania, Tuesday, 10 Jul 1883).
