David L. Barber Jr., 56, of Smithfield, Pa., died on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2005.
He was born on Aug. 17, 1948, in Smithfield, Pa., a son of David and Ellen Elizabeth (McGaw) Barber.
His parents and a nephew, Joseph Kormos Jr., preceded him in death.
David was a graduate of Albert Gallatin Senior High School, Class of 1966.
He had been a coal miner; roof bolter, employed with Consolidation Coal Company, and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America, District 2.
An avid sportsman, hunter, trapper, master woodworker and craftsman, he enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his family, beloved children, and especially his cherished grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Karen P. (Morris) Barber; first wife and friend, Georgiann Barber Rittenour of Hopwood, Pa., and their children, Danette L. Burkett and husband, Matthew of Uniontown, Pa., and Mindy Barber of Mill Run, Pa.; four grandchildren, Kali, Paige, Vincent and Matthew; brothers, Gary Barber of Smithfield, Pa., and Eric Turtzer of Smithfield, Pa.; sisters, Ellen Rae Price of Point Marion, Pa., Gloria June Warner and Rosemary Kormos, both of Smithfield, Pa., Sharon Lape of West Newton, Pa., and Lou Ann Barber of West Virginia; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the STEPHEN R. HAKY FUNERAL HOME INC., A Dignity Memorial Provider, 603 North Gallatin Ave., Ext., Uniontown, Pa., today from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., the hour of service, with Associate Pastor J. Edward Loukota officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Moriah Baptist Cemetery, Smithfield, Pa.
