Virginia Anderson, 97, a guest of Point Manor Nursing Home and formerly of Smithfield, Pa., passed away Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, at Point Manor.
She was born at Marianna, Pa., on Feb. 22, 1907, a daughter of the now late Guy and Ruby Fonner Anderson.
She was a member of the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church and S.S., where she attended faithfully.
At the age of 14, she trusted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was baptized in 1921, by R. H. Austin, she loved music and would at times serve as assistant church pianist.
She taught S.S. in the Woodbridge Union Church on Sunday afternoon and taught regularly in the S.S. at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church for many, many years.
Miss Anderson was a true Christian and a very sensitive and caring person.
She loved to read and embroider and loved her Christian family. She was also a caregiver to her mother and family for years, until their passing.
Miss Anderson began working as a teller/bookkeeper at the First National Bank of Smithfield, in September of 1925.
At the age of 18, when banks failed during the depression, she began working for the Smithfield State Bank, where she was Head Teller until her retirement in 1972. She worked a total of 47 years.
She is survived by her nephew, Ralph Burchell and his wife, Janet, who are missionaries with the Baptist International Missions Inc., in Kobe, Japan; great nieces and nephews, Elizabeth Thomasson and husband, David of Durham, N.C., and Sarah, Daniel, David and Mary Burchell, all of Lancaster, Calif.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Burchell and brother-in-law, Ralph.
The family will receive friends in the JOHN F. BROWNFIELD FUNERAL HOME OF SMITHFIELD, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Wednesday until noon, in the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, where services will be conduced, with the Rev. Jay Hurley officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Moriah Baptist Cemetery, Smithfield.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Building Fund.
