Elston B. Beachel
Elston B. Beachel, 88, of Mahoning Street, passed away on Monday, Aug. 17, 2009, at his home.
He was born May 6, 1921, in Middleburg, a son of the late Clarence and Grace (Kern) Beachel. On April 6, 1947, he married the former Ann J. Burger, who survives.
He was a graduate of Middleburg High School and served in the Navy in the Pacific during World War II as a motor machinist mate second class.
From 1947 to 1972, Elston was the owner of Beachel's Taxi Service, which served Milton, Watsontown and Lewisburg. He retired as a mailman from the Milton post office on Oct. 2, 1992, after 27 years of service.
Elston was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the American Legion for 64 years, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Elks and the Kiwanis club, where he was past president, all of Milton. He also was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter and son in-law, Lisa and Steve Eberly, of Aliquippa; two grandsons, Richard L. Eberly and his fiancee, Amy Crissinger, of Milton, and Geoffrey A. Eberly and Jessica Lawrence, of Aliquippa; and three great-grandchildren, Geoffrey A. Eberly Jr., of Aliquippa, and Kira Crissinger and Brennan Eves, of Milton.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Leroy Beachel, and one sister, Shirley Strassner.
Friends and relatives will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Milton, followed by the funeral at 11 with the Rev. Cheryl Berner officiating.
Interment with military honors will be in Milton Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the care of the Shaw Funeral Home, Milton.
