Arthur J. Andes, 78, of Shavertown, Kingston Township, died Sunday at Penn State Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township. Born March 9, 1921, in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Harry and Anna Morgan Andes. He was a graduate of Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre. Before retiring, he was employed as a sheet metal worker and was active with the Sheet Metal Workers Union, Local #44. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a second lieutenant in pilot during World War II. He was a member of St. Therese's Church, Shavertown. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, the former Laverne Orr; daughter, Sandra Rowlands, Hanover Township; son, Harry Andes, Trenton, Fla.; brothers, Robert, Texas; Jack, New Jersey; Joseph, Ohio; Harry, Florida; Thomas, Pennsylvania; sister, Dora Keeney, Wilkes-Barre; three granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews. -- The Times Leader, June 29, 1999 U.S. Army Veteran of WWII dates of service: 2/1/1945 -10/15/1945 3541st AAF BU Rank: 2 Lt.
