The son of William & Elizabeth Deweese, his whereabouts in 1860 are yet to be determined, but he was a Perry County resident in 1850 and 1870.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Juniata County September 1, 1862, and mustered into federal service at Harrisburg September 18 as a private with Co. F, 16th Pennsylvania Cavalry (161st Pa). On October 1, 1864, he transferred to the Veteran Reserve (Invalid) Corps, and honorably discharged by general order either June 17 or July 5, 1865 (both are reported).
He stood 5' 11" tall and had dark hair and blue eyes.
Died at age 69 years 2 months 5 days
