James T. Burke, Sr.
James T. Burke, Sr., of Wood, passed away in the J. C. Blair Memorial Hospital on Wednesday evening, March 5, 1958, at 6:10 o'clock. Mr. Burke, who had been ill for the past two weeks, was a patient in the hospital for five days preceding his death. The deceased was born on February 16, 1883, in Broad Top City, the son of Richard and Catherine (Brown) Burke. He was united in marriage with Miss Charlotte M. Lemin on February 28, 1907, in Dudley with the Rev. Father McKenna officiating. Mrs. Burke passed away on July 10, 1957. Mr. Burke was employed at the Letterkenny Ordnance Depot in Chambersburg prior to his retirement in 1945. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Dudley and the Catholic Knights of St. George. Survivors include the following sons and daughters: William F. Burke of Wood; Mrs. Julia Lynn, Six Mile Run; Cletis Burke, Dudley; Mrs. Margaret Black, Dudley; James Burke, Harrisburg; Mrs. Dorothy Dixon, Six Mile Run; Robert Burke, Aliquippa; Richard Burke, Aliquippa; Miss Mary C. Burke of Harrisburg. A grand- daughter, Mrs. Jean Hedge of Windham, Ohio, was reared in the Burke home. There are three nieces, one nephew, 21 grandchildren and three great - grandchildren surviving. Mr. Burke was the last surviving member of his immediate family. The funeral service will take place Saturday morning, March 8, at 9 o'clock in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Dudley, at which time requiem high mass will be celebrated. The Rev. P. A. M. Bodenschatz will be celebrant of the mass. Interment will be made in Mt. Calvary Cemetery of Dudley. Friends will be received at the Masood funeral chapel in Saxton after 7 p.m. tonight until 8 a.m. on Saturday.
