Ella C. Leppert was born July 14, 1908, in Sarles. She received a bachelor's degree in history, economics and political science from Carleton College, Northfield, Minn., and a master's in American and European history from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. In 1951, she received a doctorate of education in curriculum and teacher education from the Teachers College, Columbia University, New York. She taught world history, U.S. history and economics at the senior high school in Leed, S.D., from 1937 to 1941, and at West High School, Green Bay, Wis., from 1941 to 1945. Her college and university teaching included the State Teachers College, Dickinson, N.D., the summer of 1944, Illinois State University, Normal from 1945 to 1954, Northern Michigan State College, Marquette, Mich., the summers of 1951 and 1953, and Horace-Mann/Lincoln Research Institute, Columbia University, from 1949 to 1951. From 1954 until her retirement in 1976, she taught social studies at the University High School, University of Illinois at Urbana, and continuing education in the University's College of Education and Curriculum Laboratory. She is survived by nephews.
Services: Private services will be held in the Sarles Cemetery in the spring.
