Mary Jane Towns was a daughter of John Wesley Towns and Frances Ann (Francina) Bogus/Boggess Towns. Descendants say Mary Jane was a redhead. Family records say she was born in Arkron, Ohio - but all the census shows Virginia. 1850 Greenbrier, Virginia census...but this area may currently be a part of West Virginia according to research records. Mary J. was age 2 in the household with Westy (sp) & Francis (sp) Towns. It appears Wesley may have previously married since there was a daughter, Elizabeth, age 15 (too old for a child of Frances) in the household and a son, John, age 8, which may have been Frances' son.

Mary Jane married Dec. 7, 1865 in Gallia, Gallia County, Ohio to John Perry Dearmon. John Perry Dearmon and Mary Jane Towns Dearmon were parents of nine children: Effie Alice Dearmon (Charles) McKitrick [died in Colorado]; Rosa Frances Dearmon (Jasper) Smith [died in Wisconsin]; Lizzie Florence Dearmon (John Lafayette) Fults [died in Tennessee]; William Thomas "Will" Dearmon (m: Eva Nevada Whited) [died in Kentucky]; Chloa Belle Dearmon (Benjamin Harrison) Fultz [died in Tennessee]; Mary Josephine "Josie" Deamon (John Campbell & Alvin Fults) [died in Texas]; George Edward Dearmon (m: Lou Bates)[died in Oregon]; John Monroe "Johnny" Dearmon [died young in Wisconsin]; and Mae Viola Dearmon (Frank N.) Petrie [died in Oregon.]

Mary Jane and John Dearmon moved from Ohio to Wisconsin to Tennessee to Texas. She died in Texas at age 49 years and was buried in Sweatbox Cemetery. Her son-in-law, John Campbell, is buried in the same family plot. My grandmother, Chloa, and her family were in the wagon train headed from Warren County, Tennessee to Texas, but because Chloa became ill she, her husband and children stopped in Lincoln County, Tennessee where the parents remained until death. John Perry Dearmon, a widower, left Texas and went back to Wisconsin where some of his children lived. More details on J. P. Dearmon on his memorial.
