|Birth: ||Dec. 9, 1942|
|Death: ||Jul. 27, 1982|
Ramona was the seventh of eight children born to Sarah (Hodges) and Henry Kruse.
She had six sisters: Verlene ("Peggy"); Virginia ("Gin"); Goldie; LaDonna ("Chub"); Lois; and Veda. Her brother, Donald Leroy, was born and died on the same day.
Ramona married Eugene Jones and they became the parents of Rhonda, Freddie, and Stacy Jones. They divorced. It is believed that she then married a Mr. Afo.
The following article regarding Ramona and her murder was found in the Daily Republic newspaper dated July 1982 and states:
"BENECIA---A 39 year old Benecia woman is in critical condition today after being severely beaten with a baseball bat allegedly wielded by her son-in-law. (Another newspaper identified him as her step-son)
Ramona Afo is in the critical care unit of Doctor's Hospital, Pinole, following the 10:15 a.m. Monday assault.
A hospital spokeswoman said the extent of Afo's injuries were unknown at this time. However, Doctor's Hospital has a reputation for handling severe trauma cases.
Sgt. William Temple, Benecia Police Department, said Afo suffered massive injuries and was "not doing too well". If she dies, her son-in-law, Vaimaa Viafanua, 27, may be charged with murder. He is presently in Solano County branch jail in Vallejo on charges of mayhem and attempted murder.
Apparently Afo was assaulted following an argument. The enraged suspect then allegedly went to the garage and retrieved a baseball bat and struck Afo twice in the head and once in the chest, police said. Temple said the blows caused massive injuries to the head and chest. He also said the cause of the argument was unknown at this time and is still under investigation.
Soon after the beating, Viafanua turned himself in at the Benecia police station.
Temple and Officer David McDonald rushed to the home but were delayed from entering by the victim's vicious dog. "It was a big mean one", Temple said, "a mongrel". After circumventing the dog, the officers found Afo laying on the floor and called paramedics to the scene. She was taken to Vallejo General Hospital, stablized, and transferred to Pinole where she died at 9:15 Tuesday night. Viamaa Viafanua was being charged with the murder."
