Edward Murnahan was the first Murnahan in the current Lawrence County, Ohio area and shows up in Gallia Co. tax lists as early as 1812. He served in the War of 1812 from the Ohio Volunteer Militia under Capt. Roadarmor, also from Gallia Co. He married Mary Clark, daughter of Anthony Clark Sr. and Catherine (Pentsinger), in Monroe Co., Va/WV on Feb. 9, 1799 but is more likely actually 1800 since the bond itself was dated Dec. 9, 1799.
Edward and Mary had at least the following children: Elizabeth who married James McMahan, Hiram who married Elizabeth Fuller, Katherine who married Thompson Simmons, Jane who married John Pinkerman, and John who married Mary Ann King and according to the 1820 census there was another son with the age of 16-26 (so born between 1800-1804). His son John listed in the 1880 census that his father was born in Virginia.
According to deed transactions Edward died between Sept. 20, 1845 and Mar. 29, 1848. After Edward's death, his wife, Mary, moved to Hamilton Co., Illinois to live with her daughter, Elizabeth, where she died in 1860. Mary is buried in New Prospect Cemetery in that county.
Whoever transcribed his headstone before it fell apart, or reset the stone and added the fencing, most likely has a picture of the full headstone. If anyone has one, please email me.
