James William Blackwood a native of Marion County, Missouri was born to William and Jemima Blackwood in about 1845. He worked the farm with his ten brothers and sisters. On Nov 8, 1862, he enlisted with his younger brother George as a private in Company L, 11th S.M. Cavalry Regiment of Missouri, for the Union. They fought during a battle on 27 Mar 1862. James was wounded, was mustered out of the Cavalry on the 1st of September and died on Nov 8th.
