Our deceased sister Mary Bauer was born at Altenkirchen, Germany. She had christian parents and received a good christian education. When yet a girl she joined the Evangelical Lutheran church and was a true member of said church all her lifelong.
In the year of 1848 she emigrated with her parents to this country and found a home in Crawford County of this state. In 1855 she married Lawrenz Bauer. This union was blessed with 9 children, 2 of whom went ahead of the mother into eternity.
In 1861 the family removed to Bridgewater township, Williams County, Ohio, where she stayed the rest of her life. A week ago from last Sunday she took sick with cholera morbus. She suffered very much until last Sunday, August 28th, 1898, when at half past 6 o'clock in the evening the Lord released her through death from all her sufferings, and called her home to the father house in heaven.
Her age is 65 years, 8 months and 26 days. She was to her husband a true and loving wife, to her children a good and loving mother; she was a good woman, as everybody who knew her can testify. The best we can say about her is that she was a true christian; she loved the Lord and tried to lead a life in obedience to the word of God. The Lord was her hope. In her last sickness was her prayer the Lord might come and take her home. He took her home. Her husband, 7 children, 14 grandchildren and many relatives and friends mourn her departure. The Lord comfort all the mourners.
Funeral services were held in the of Church of God in Bridgewater township, on August 30th 1898, conduted by Rev. W. Wacke, of Edon, Ohio. Her remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at Heritage's corners in Bridgewater township, Williams County, Ohio.
