Erma May Gant Bearden, fondly known as "Bug," passed from this life Saturday, January 31, 2009 at the home of her daughter after a prolonged illness.
Mrs. Bearden was born April 10, 1911 in Delta County, Texas the 8th child of 10 born to Dolphus Cenola and Mary Ellen Jones Gant. She married James B. Bearden in Bonham, Texas, January 31, 1934.
The couple lived for many years in Edhube community where they farmed & raised their daughter Shirley Ann. Mrs. Bearden worked along side her husband in farming while making a home for them.
Erma Gant Bearden was baptized into faith in her Lord, Christ Jesus in 1920 at Klondike, Texas after a protracted revival at the Baptist church there. She worshiped at Edhube Baptist Church for many years as long as she was able to attend. She had a strong faith and never stopped living it.
She adored her family. Erma was preceded in death by her husband James, her son-in-law, her parents and 8 siblings: Ernest Gant, Floyd Gant, Johnie Gant, Ruby Cantrell, infant sister Dovie, Gladys Doss, Russell Gant & Nina Lane.
She is survived by her daughter Shirley, two granddaughters, two great-grandsons, one brother Rayford Gant & wife Oleta and many nieces and nephews.
Services for Mrs. Bearden will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at Cooper-Sorrells Chapel in Bonham, with Bro. Morris Robbins officiating.
Pallbearers will be nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be nephews and great-grandsons.
Mrs. Bearden will be laid to rest in Hampton Cemetery, Edhube. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service on Tuesday at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Bonham.
Special thanks and appreciation are extended by the family to JoAnn Durst and the team of American Hospice who gave such wonderful care to our loved one during her illness.
