The Bidwell family moved to Albany Oregon when he was a child. Walt left home and started cowboying for Rueb Long in Fort Rock Oregon at age 15. At this time in his life he also drove log truck and worked in the mill.
At 17 he and his friends Archie and Don joined the army and went into combat in the South Pacific campaign where he was shot twice. He was hospitalized and recovered at a Hawaiian army base and returned to duty.
After WWII he returned to Oregon and went back into the logging industry.
He also did farm work and worked in the mill.
He met Darleen Carter and married her November 14, 1955. He had three children from a previous marriage, a daughte Mary Jo and two sons Dave and Dan. Walt and Darleen had five children of their own, Leon, Philip, Holly, Kerry and Sean. They settled in Terrebonne oregon in 1960 and built the house they still reside in. They started attending Redmond Assembly of God church in 1959 and are still members today.
Walt enjoyed bear hunting with his hounds and cat fishing on the snake River. He was a team roper. His favorite thing was his grandkids. He played Santa (with live reindeer) and had a pretend bird in his pocket and sometimes a tootsie roll.
He passed away 1 month short of his 90th birthday at home surrounded by family.
Walt was preceded in death by both parents 4 brothers, 5 sisters and his daughters Mary Jo and Holly. He is survived by his wife 7 children, 19 grand children, 45 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
