Joseph Anthony Baker was born on the family farm January 26, 1926 in Mountaindale, Oregon to Joseph Baltizar Baker and Lucy Cropp Baker. He grew up on the family dairy farm in Mountaindale with three sisters, Anita Hoerner, Lucille Johnson, and Yvonne Morand. He graduated from Hillsboro High school in 1944 and served in the US Army as a paratrooper and was honorably discharged in 1946. He married Lilly Kjornes in 1947 and they had seven children. Joe and Lilly had a large farming operation on Scappoose dike land early in their marriage. They moved to Raymond Creek Rd. in 1962 and started an excavation business and enjoyed working with many of the local homeowners and homebuilders. Joe loved to travel and enjoyed Europe, Australia, China, Mexico and Hawaii. He was an active member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic church and had belonged to the Knights of Columbus.
He was predeceased by his wife Lilly, two of their children (Dennis and Tom) and second wife, Irene.
He is survived by his current wife, Evelyn, and his five children: Kathie, Vickie, Joe, Jean and Dave and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
On Friday June 8, 2018 at St. Wenceslaus in Scappoose, there will be a rosary at 10:30 followed by a 11:00 mass and reception to follow in the parish hall.
