Virginia Chandler Crummett Anderson, 86, passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 in Hillsboro.
Born Jan. 13, 1924, to Heaton and Leona (Boydstun) Chandler, she was the youngest of 11 children. She graduated from Lakeview High school in 1942.
Virginia was raised in Valley Falls on the Chandler Ranch. On Nov. 10, 1945 she married Floyd Crummett. After Floyd's death in 1987, Virginia married Maurice Anderson who preceded her in death in 1993.
Virginia had many stories about her years growing up on the ranch. Some of the most memorable were introducing guests to the family dinner table with a lazy susan in the middle, the chicken coop she built, and the time her brother Aaron was bit in the back pocket by a rattlesnake.
Virginia worked at the Dimestore in the 1950-60's where her duties included decorating chocolate Easter eggs and bunnies for customers. She also worked as a secretary for the OSU Extension Service for many years and secretary for the Lake County Fair.
Virginia was a charter member of the Valley Falls Grange and a member of the Lakeview Rebekahs for many years. She loved playing pinochle.
In 2003 she moved to Forest Grove and lived at The Elms retirement apartments until a few months before her death. There she made many friends and participated in the residents' council. Virginia continued playing cards with friends at The Elms and at the Forest Grove Senior Center.
Virginia is survived by: her only child Bob Crummett and his wife Toni of Hillsboro; step-son Kirk Anderson and wife Nancy of Las Vegas, Nev.; step-daughter Karen Grames and husband Blair of Salem; grandson Kristofer Crummet of Portland; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
