Andrew G. Adams, 72, 'Jack of all trades'
Andrew "Andy" G. Adams, 72, of Hillsboro, died Jan. 19, 2004.
Memorial Services will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at Fir Lawn Mortuary. Memorials may be made to Doernbecher's Children's Hospital.
Mr. Adams was born Jan. 7, 1932, in Columbus, Georgia, the son of Andrew and Nina (Goins) Adams. He was raised and schooled in Georgia and joined the U.S. Navy on Dec. 1, 1951. The recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, he was discharged in November 1955.
He married Sharon Casey on April 7, 1956 at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Hillsboro. Since their marriage, they have lived in Aloha, Beaverton and Hillsboro. His wife preceded him in death April 15, 1996.
An Upholsterer by trade, he worked for many years for B.P. Johns before owning and operating his own upholstery shop, Adams Upholstery. He retired in the mid 1990s.
A self-proclaimed "Jack of all trades", he was one who was always working in his shop, tinkering and repairing. He also raised many animals, including chickens, a pig, a steer and even a Shetland pony at one time. He loved the Oregon Coast and gardening.
Survivors include three sons and their wives, Andrew and Kathleen Adams of Hillsboro, Matthew and Julia Adams of Beaverton and Casey and Kathy Adams of Hillsboro; his daughter, Julie Adams of Beaverton; a brother, Ray Adams of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Julia McCrary of Mt. Dora, Fla.; a cousin (raised like his sister), Edna Morgan of Albany, Ga.; six grandchildren, Patrick and Melissa Carmean, and James, Alex, Madison and Noah Adams, and one great-grandchild, McKayla Carmean of Hillsboro.
