Birth: unknown
Death: Dec. 14, 2008

BACA -- Consuelo , age 85, resident of Tome/Adelino, NM, passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2008 after a long battle with dementia. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Parish for her entire life and was a member of the Parish choir for 50 years. Consuelo was born prematurely and grew up in Tome plaza. Some of her fondest childhood memories were going to visit her maternal grandfather, Meliton Ortiz, in Casa Colorada, attending the Tome Fiestas, preparing for Semana Santa and other church holidays. One of her biggest joys in life was her flower garden where she raised many types of flowers year after year, but the greatest joy of her life was her daughter, Janice and then her grandchildren, Olivia, Bianca and Daniel Torres. Consuelo was also a terrific home maker, cook and baker. She made the best jelly rolls, pies and cakes. Consuelo enjoyed baking so much that her daughter and other family members jokingly said that she had caused her husbands heart problems by "plugging" his arteries. In 2000, she underwent a hip replacement surgery and subsequently was never able to return to her previous state of health. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Gladio I. Baca, in 2007; her parents, Luis and Eloisa (Ortiz) Padilla; four brothers, infant Gabriel, Vicente, Placido and Anastacio Padilla; and four sisters, Dora Silva, Josefita Chavez, Dolores Montoya and Victoria Zamora. Consuelo is survived by her loving daughter, Janice Torres and husband, Edgard; three loving grandchildren, Olivia, Bianca and Daniel Torres; sister, Luz Garcia; five sisters-in-law, Crisanta Padilla, Filomena Otero, Carmen Baca, Assunta Berry and Paula Padilla; two brothers-in-law, Max Baca and Benito Montoya. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. All services will be held at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church beginning with a public viewing on Tuesday, December 16, at 5:30 p.m. with the recitation of the rosary at 6:00 p.m. A final visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 17, at 10:00 a.m. with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. with Father Jose Hernandez presiding. Interment will follow at the Tome Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rudy Chavez, Jerry Montoya, Joey and Fabian Padilla, Jerome Garcia and Edgard Torres.
