Reyes Aguilera, known to all as "Guerro", entered into eternal rest on Friday, August 21, 2009 at his home among his family.
Guerro was born on February 10, 1924 in Lordsburg, NM to Reyes and Bruna Aguilera. He is survived by his wife Clara of the home, 2 brothers, Manuel Aguilera of Lordsburg, NM and Raymundo Ortega of Albuquerque, NM, 3 sisters, Nieves of Lordsburg, NM, Soila of Las Cruces, NM and Lucy of Albuquerque, NM and many nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends. Guerro was a member of St Joseph's Catholic Church , a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and a member of the LULACs. Guerro served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946. He married Clara and they made their home in Lordsburg. Guerro retired from Southern Pacific Railroad after 48 years of service. He also worked with Harbor Heather Mortuary and Baca's Funeral Home.
Guerro loved his family and community very much, he could often be seen walking and visiting with everyone along way. Though Guerro didn't have children of his own, he and Clara loved and watched over their "adopted" neighborhood children. Guerro enjoyed working on his home and took great pride in tending his lawn and landscape. He was loved and respected by all and he always had a kind word to say about everyone. He will be greatly missed!
St. Joseph's Catholic Church with the Rite of Committal following at Shakespeare Cemetery. Fr. Virgilio Flores officiated.
Pallbearers were David Gomez, David "Dukie" Gomez, Jr., Epifanio Garcia, Rene Saucedo, Manuel Newell and Louie Newell.
Honorary Pallbearers were Ronnie DeFoor, Danny Placencia, Manuel DV Saucedo, Herbert Saucedo, Frank Chaires, Frankie Chaires, Lalo Talavera, Steve Aguilera, Manuel Gandara, Clemente Baisa, Refugio Vargas and Don Frazier.
