"Francisco C. Acosta, 78, died Monday, Feb. 2, at the Life Care Center in Sierra Vista, Ariz. Mr. Acosta was born March 9, 1919, in Shakespeare to Bernabe Acosta and Dolores Casares Acosta. He was raised in New Mexico. He was a decorated veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II with Gen. George Patton's 3rd Army with the 2828 Combat Engineers. After the service, he moved to Bisbee, Ariz., and worked for Phelps Dodge Corp. as a miner until retiring July 1, 1975. Mr. Acosta was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 638 and American Legion Post No. 16. He was in avid pool player. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cecilia Serna Acosta, on June 26, 1985. Survivors include a daughter, Dolores, Dottie Samaniego of Bisbee; five sons, Miguel Acosta (Yanira) of Colorado Springs, Cob., Frank Acosta Jr. (Carmen) of Lordsburg, Ramon Acosta of Las Cruces, John Acosta (Delcia) of Playas., and Bernabe Bernie Acosta of Bisbee; and 10 grandchildren, Ralph Samaniego III, Tina Samaniego, Miguel Acosta Jr., John Acosta, Nick Acosta, Maria Dominique Acosta, Angela Acosta, Joseph Acosta, Sonya Acosta and Cecilia Acosta. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Martin Rodriguez and Domingo Acosta. A viewing will be held at St. Patrick's on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Bisbee, followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. in Lords-burg at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's. Burial with full military honors will follow at Shakespeare Cemetery in Lordsburg. All arrangements are being handled by Dugan Funeral Chapel of Bisbee and Lordsburg Funeral Home."
