Manuel M. Romero, Sr. age 56, a lifetime resident of Chacon, N.M., passed away on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006, at his home following a brief illness.
He was born in Chacon on Jan. 31, 1950, to Alfonso Romero and Rosalia Gallegos Romero.
He was united in marriage at St. Gertrude's Church in Mora on Dec. 11, 1969, to Mary P. Duran.
He served in the U.S. Army as Sp.4 during the Vietnam War and honorably discharged in 1970. He retired in July 2005 from the Carson National Forest where he was employed for 29 years as a fire management officer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gathering firewood and attending the Mora Ranger basketball games. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend.
A lifelong Catholic, he was a member of St. Gertrude's Church in Mora, N.M.
He was preceded in death by his brother: Alfonso Romero; father and mother-in-law: Preciliano and Mary L. Duran; sister-in-law: Priscilla Duran and brother-in-law: Robert E. Duran.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years: Mary P. Romero of the family home in Chacon; sons: Manuel M. Romero, Jr. and wife Sandra of South El Carmen, N.M., Matthew M. Romero of Mora, N.M., Mario M. Romero and wife Lou Ella of Rio Rancho, N.M., and Marcus M. Romero and wife Shannon of Las Vegas; grandchildren: Ryan M. Romero, Keith T. Romero, Dominic M. Romero, Samantha M. Romero, Derick M. Romero, Donavan M. Romero and Krysten A. Romero; parents: Alfonso and Rosalie Romero of Chacon; brother: Jerry Romero and wife Mary of Las Vegas, N.M., and Herman Romero and wife Lizzie of Buena Vista, N.M.; sister: Bernadette Romero of Chacon; brother-in-law: Joseph R. Duran and wife Jan of Colorado Springs, Colo., special cousin: Ernest Duran and wife Adela of Cheyenne, Wyo.; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Rosary devotional services were conducted Sunday evening at St. Gertrude's Church in Mora. The mass of resurrection was celebrated this morning at St. Gertrude's Church, with Father Tien-Tri Nguyen as celebrant. Interment followed at the San Antonio Cemetery in Chacon with the following serving as casket bearers: Manuel M. Romero, Jr., Matthew M. Romero, Mario M. Romero, Marcus M. Romero, Ryan M. Romero and Keith T. Romero.
Serving as honorary bearers: Dominic M. Romero, Samantha M. Romero, Derick M. Romero, Donovan M. Romero and Krysten A. Romero.
