MEXICAN SPRINGS — Services for Felix Barney, 81, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 26, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Tohatchi. Deacon Sherman Manuelito will officiate. Burial will follow at Lone Pine Cemetery, Mexican Springs.
A rosary will be recited half an hour before services.
Barney died May 23 in Gallup. He was born May 21, 1920, in Mexican Springs into the Hairy Ones (Zia) for the Red Running Into the Water People Clan.
Barney attended Wingate School and was employed with the McKinley County Schools until he retired. He was a member of NAC and his hobbies included participating in rodeos.
Survivors include his sons, Jefferson Barney of Tohatchi, Patrick Dennison of Buffalo Springs, David Dennison of Coyote Canyon, Samuel Dennison and Delbert Dennison, both of Torrance, Calif.; daughters, Stella Benally of Albuquerque, Eleanor J. Begay of Mexican Springs, Shirlene Bigwater of Ganado, Ariz., Mavis Herrera of Cochiti, Mae Fern Dennison of Albuquerque, Pauline Plummer of Yah Ta Hey, Rita Upshaw of St. Michaels, Ariz., and Effie J. Barney and Margilene Yazzie, both of Buffalo Springs; sisters, Bonnie Chischilly and Fannie Talley, both of Mexican Springs; 28 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Barney was preceded in death by his wife, Lenora D. Barney; parents, Kanesbah "Rose" Etsitty and John Barney Sr.; brother, John Barney Jr.; and sister, Ella Nez.
Pallbearers will be Darell Dennison, Wayne Benally, Nathaniel Plummer, Johnson Nez, Dwayne Barney and Jevon Barney.
The family will receive friends and relatives after the burial services at house No. 6, Bitsie Heights, Mexican Springs.
