BABY DRINKS POISON;
DIES HORRIBLE DEATH
An accident occurred at Hyer Monday morning which has cast a gloom over the entire neighborhood. Herschel Clifton, the two-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. T. F. Clifton, got hold of a cup containing syrup and strychnine which was being used to poison flies and drank a quantity of the mixture. The act was discovered almost in its performance by his mother but so quick and deadly was the poison that its work was accomplished and the little fellow's life had gone out before anything could be done for his relief.
Mr. Clifton was away from home at the time, he having left about two hours earlier on a trip to the Rio Grande. He was overtaken by a messenger and returned, home at once.
The funeral occurred Tuesday after noon and the interment was in the new Hyer cemetery.
