Manuel M. Acosta, 62, a lifelong resident of Silver City, died Monday evening at his home. He was born Aug. 2, 1927 in Silver City to Maria Morales Acosta and Jose A. Acosta. He attended Western New Mexico University and was employed by the town of Silver City as water superintendent for 24 years. Mr. Acosta was a veteran of World War II, and a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus and St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Calling hours are from noon to 5 p.m. today in Baca's Hillcrest Funeral Chapels. Rosary service will be held tonight at 7:30 in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, where Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday afternoon at 2 with the Rev. Richard Lynch as the celebrant. Concluding services will follow in the Fort Bayard National Cemetery with veteran honors accorded by Allingham-Golding Post No. 18 of the American Legion. Survivors are his wife, Blanch Ogas Acosta of Silver City; two sons, Ronald O. Acosta of Las Cruces and Jose O. Acosta of Silver City; a daughter, Lorraine O. Acosta of Las Cruces; a brother, Angel M. Acosta of Silver City; a sister, Mary Helen Escalante of Phoenix; and an uncle, Joe Morales of Silver City. He was preceded in death by a brother, Tony Parra, who was killed in action during World War II. Casket bearers will be Catarino Lopez, Joe F. Mendoza, Dennis Acosta, Billy Ogas, Tony I. Rivera and Richard Sifuentes. Honorary bearers will be Pat Gutierrez, Bobby Mendoza, Vicente Romero, Pablo Espinosa, Johnny M. Aragon, Knights of Columbus members and co-workers with the Silver City Public Works Department. Entrusted to the care of Baca's Hillcrest Funeral Chapels.
