"First Maude, 17 years old, then Queen, 49 years old, died in the fall of 1909. Queen left a two-year old son, Berl, to be cared for by his father and older sisters. Dan donated a quarter section of his land near Jordan, NM as a cemetery. It was called "Browning Cemetery" because there was already a "Brown Cemetery" close by. Maude became the first person to be buried there, followed by her mother, Emily McQueen." - Phyllis Brown. Emily and Maude died of tuberculosis, and George died of an enlarged spleen.
Wendy Swaim writes, "I can tell you this, my great uncle Melvin Gates made the Browns headstones. I have put flowers on their graves since I was a little kid..."
