William Luther Abernathy Sr., 76, of Carolina Acres Road, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at his home.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, by the Rev. Gene Davis. Burial, with military graveside rites by VFW Post 3074, will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park.
Mr. Abernathy was born in Davidson County on Feb. 2, 1925, to John Abernathy and Nodie Cope Abernathy. He retired from the U.S. Army and served in World War II and the Vietnam conflict, and was retired from PPG Industries.
Surviving are his wife, Esther Bailey Abernathy of the home; a son, Bill Abernathy Jr. of Lexington; a daughter, Pamela Abernathy Hunt of Lexington; six grandchildren, Chris Pardue, Steven Hunt, William L. Abernathy III, Heidi Michelle Abernathy and Leslie Nicole Abernathy, all of Lexington; and a sister, Mozelle Morrow of Lexington.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
