WESTBY, Wis. - Mildred "Millie" I. Anderson, 80, of Westby died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008, at Norseland Nursing Home in Westby after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born Nov. 11, 1927, to Earl and Crystabel (Jacobus) Rumppe. On July 27, 1946, she was united in marriage to Howard L. Anderson. They farmed until moving to Westby in 1967. Millie enjoyed working in her yard, baking Norwegian pastries, putting puzzles together and reading. She worked for many years in local restaurants, including Ella's Café and Borgen's Café. She also worked 10 years for Sloane Foods. She was an active member of Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church and the WELCA. Millie always had a cup of coffee while visiting and really enjoyed her visits with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by five daughters, Shirley (Noel) Soltau, Carol (Thomas) Olson, Dianne (Jerry) Buros, Alaine (Jerry) Abrams and Aline (Curt) Hess; 13 grandchildren, Scott (Angela) Dahl, Troy (Angella) Dahl, Jason Dahl (Candace Ortega), David (Heidi) Olson, Craig (Jennifer) Buros, Lisa Buros (Dustin Evenstad), Kyle (Kimberly) Buros, Zac Abrams (Sara Downey), Luke Abrams, Nathan (Ivy) Houghtaling, Kandis Houghtaling, Andrew Hess (Vicky Slama) and Kylie Hess; great-grandchildren, Anders, Davin and Sitotaw Dahl, Brayden, Ella and Jack Dahl; Zoe and Easton Dahl; Camille Olson; Kayla and Brendan Buros; Lillian Phillips, and Karissa Cowles; siblings, Robert (Mary) Rumppe, Harold (Doana) Rumppe, Arlene Orethun, Darlene (Gerald) Hanson, Franklin Rumppe and Earl Jr. (Eileen) Rumppe; sisters-in-law, Darlene Rumppe, and Shirley Rumppe; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Esther Tryggestad, Lenora (Vern) Melgard, Hilmer (Hazel) Anderson, LeRoy (Joan) Anderson, Christine Anderson, Arnie (Katherine) Anderson and Cleo Yttri; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, on Sept. 8, 2003; mother- and father-in-law, Alvin and Ella Anderson; siblings and in-laws, Merte (Lawrence) Beiers, Fern (Max) Conant, Alfred Rumppe and Alonzo Orethun; and brothers-in-law, Alton Anderson, LaVerne Tryggestad, Orvin Yttri, Raymond "Dill" Anderson and Phillip Anderson.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church. Pastor Dennis Hallemeier will officiate with burial in North Coon Prairie Cemetery.
