Carl Edwin Abbott, 89, passed away in Tyler, Texas, on February 2, 2011 after a long illness.
He was born in Colmesneil, Texas, on May 9, 1921.
He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Faye Lindberg Abbott, and by his parents Thomas A. Abbott and Zora Mott Abbott; his brothers Robert Earl Abbott and James Corbett Abbott, and his sister Jean Abbott Bell.
He is survived by his wife Bobbie Abbott, his daughters Karen (Lehr) McKenzie of Charlotte, NC, and Penny (Gary) Egbert of Cypress, TX, along with five grandchildren and two great grandsons. He is also survived by Bobbie's sisters Helen (Howard) Craft, Donna (Neill) Rayford and Linda (Gene) Walker.
Mr. Abbott served as a radio operator in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and moved to Beaumont following the war. He retired after 25 years with Union Oil of California, but his lifelong avocation was music. An accomplished bassist, he played a wide variety of music in big bands and trios throughout his life. After moving to Tyler in 1985, he played with the Rose City Swing Band and Tyler Big Band for many years.
A graveside service was at Forest Lawn in Beaumont, Texas, where he will be buried beside Faye, his wife of 39 years.
