Judith "Jackie" Jones Chancey

Mrs. Judith Jacqueline Jones Chancey, 74, of Waycross died early Thursday at her daughter's residence after an extended illness. She was born in Wilcox County, Georgia to the late Mager Berry Jones and Hilda Margaret Jones. She lived in Cordele until her teen years when she moved to Waycross. From that point on she made Waycross her home for most of her life. Mrs. Chancey was a graduate of the 1954 class of Wacona High School and also received her CNA diploma. Mrs. Chancey started her career at the Okefenokee Swamp Park in the gift shop. Her and her family lived in a cabin in the Okefenokee Swamp Park while her dad and President Carter's father helped build the Swamp Park. She worked as a seamstress for Fales Sportswear. Mrs. Chancey loved to read, listen to gospel music, sewing, gardening and being a loving and wonderful mother and grandmother to her children and grandchildren. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Linda Marie Chancey.

Mrs. Chancey is survived by her children, Patricia Beverly and her husband Jack of Wise, Virginia, Dale Chancey and his wife Jena of Blackshear, Brenda Troxell-Welborn and her husband Bryan of Pine Bluff, North Carolina, Tereasa Capps and her husband Steve of Waycross, David Chancey and his wife Lisa of Waycross, Berry Chancey and his wife Christina of Waycross, her grandchildren, Jason Stripling and his wife Claire, Ashley Solomon and her husband Tyler, Dena Morgan and her husband Byron, Rejena Chancey, Joshua Chancey and his wife Kristy, Chase Capps and his wife Mandy, Michelle Nettles and her husband Steven, Tommy Chancey, Bryan Chancey, Rebecca Sanders and her husband T.J., her great grandchildren, Aubrey Stripling, Edie Stripling, Jackson Solomon, Braydon Morgan, Nicole McFarland, Tristen Chancey, Dalton Chancey, Dylan Capps, Brantley Capps, Seth Nettles, Titus Nettles, a sister, Carolyn Kimbrel and her husband Thomas of Cordele, two nephews, Danny Kimbrel and his wife Robin of Cordele, Tommy Kimbrel and his wife Pam of Cordele, a niece, Lynn Hayes of Gainesville, Georgia and numerous other relatives.

A funeral service will be held 3 p.m., Sunday at the Pleasant View Baptist Church in Pitts, Georgia. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Miles-Odum Funeral Home in Waycross. Family and friends are gathering at the home of Tereasa Capps, 1154 California Ave., Waycross, Georgia 31503.
