Jose Joe Anaya
EDEN - Jose Joe Anaya, 68 of Eden was called home on 13th of July 2013 surrounded by his family and under the care of Compassionate Care Hospice.

Joe was a member of Meldrim Baptist Church and volunteered with the Special Olympics for many years. He was drafted into the US Army at the age of 19 and became a Paratrooper with the 101st Airborne and the 82nd Airborne and then joined the infantry. He was a Vietnam Veteran where he received numerous medals of commendation. After 20 years of service Joe retired and began a career with Coastal State Prison where he again retired after 15 years of service. He also worked with the Effingham County Sheriff's Department for 5 months only leaving due to an automobile accident.

He was preceded in death his grandson, Logan Anaya and his parents, Pedro and Arayala Anaya.

Survivors include his wife, Kay Kniphfer Anaya; two sons, Jose Jr. and Andrea Anaya of Trenton, NJ, Albert and Amber Anaya of Eden, GA; three daughters, Rachel and Derek Jones of Eden, GA, Michele and Jonathan Johnson of Guyton, GA, Amanda and Chris Doney of Anchorage, AK; grandchildren, Connor Anaya, Aidan and (Paisley on the way due in November) Anaya, Ravyn, Gavyn, Kaydin and Jose Camryn Jones, Olivia Johnson, Gunnar, Madison and Griffin Doney; two brothers; seven sisters; mother-in-law, Freida Kniphfer; four brothers-in-law; five sisters-in-law, many nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorial Contribution may be made in his name to the Special Olympics.

Visitation: 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at the Fairhaven Funeral Home Garden City location.

Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 18, 2013 in the Chapel of the Fairhaven Funeral Home Garden City location with Rev. Danny Smith officiating.

Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery in Meldrim, GA with full military honors.
