Funeral services for Hugh Wilson Adams, 79, retired Advertising Director and Executive Vice-President for the Rome News-Tribune and News Publishing Company who died at the residence,2691 N.Broad Ext.,North Pointe on January 11 will be held at 3 PM Friday in the Chapel of Parnick Jennings,Sr.'s Good Shepherd Funeral Home with his pastor, Rev.Tony Christie and former pastors Rev.Ralph Jenkins and Dr.Talmadge Barnes officiating. Due to the weather, Committal will be in the Chapel following the service and members of the Korean War Veteran's Association will conduct the flag Presentation. Private interment will be Sat. at 11 AM in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5 PM to 8 PM today at Good Shepherd.
He was born in Floyd County,Nov.18,1931, son of the late Clyde Henry Adams and Mittie Gertrude Hammonds Adams ands began his career with the Rome News-Tribune as a carrier at the age of 9. He retired in 1993 after 25 years heading up the Advertising Department and Executive Vice-President. He was a graduate of the the Kansas City Art Institute.
Wilson deeply loved his country, serving in the US Navy during the Korean War and was a member and historian for the Korean War Veterans Association, a member of the Disabled American Veterans having lost his hearing aboard ship shelling North Korean positions. He was a member of the Sherwood Forest Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death was a son, Eddie Raiden Waits, Oct.26,1984; daughter, Sandra Wilene Adams Smith, July 15,2001, baby sister, Evelyn Adams and son-in-law, Scott Williams, Sept.8,2010.
Surviving is his wife, the former Oneida Anne Carter,to whom he was married, Aug.3,1968; a son and his wife,. Kirk Kevin Adams and Leigh Ann Adams, Mt.Juliet,TN; daughters, LuAnn Waits Williams, Rome, Pamela Starr Adams Patrick and husband John F.Patrick, Peachtree City; grandchildren, James Reid, Sherry Reid Smith, Christopher Correll, Karen Stewart, Michael Stewart, Stephen Adams, Jessica Patrick and Sunny Wilkerson. Eight great-grandchilden.
Pallbearers are asked to meet at Good Shepherd Chapel by 2:30 PM Friday and include, Marvin Richards, Clyde Collier, John Linatoc, Burgett Mooney III, Dillard Burkhalter and Jerry Hicks.
An honorary escort will be comprised of the Men's Sunday School Class of Sherwood Forest Baptist Church and members of the Korean War Veterans Association.
