Services for David Earl Athey, 40, of Lufkin, were held Thursday, October 21, 1999 with internment in the Fielder Cemetery.

Mr. Athey was born January 17, 1951 in Lufkin and died Sunday, October 17, 1999 in Arkansas.

Mr Athey was a retired Fire figters for the City of Houston, retiring in 1991 following 20 years of service. Following his retirement, he was self-employed, and had been working for BNM Trucking for the past several years. Mr Athey served in the US Army during Vietnam, and had been a resident of Lufkin most of his life.

Survivors: include his wife Carol Athey of Lufkin; daughter Melissa Spring Athey of Victoria; stepdaughter and husband Tonya and Kevin LaForge of Lufkin; stepson John Wars of Lufkin; granddaughter Kendall LaForge; parents Elzie and Mae Athey of Lufkin; father-in-law and mother-in-law CG "Gene" and Doris Hargis of Lufkin; numerous other relatives; and a host of friends.

Mr Athey was preceded in death by his brother Ronald B. "Frog" Athey.
