Martha Evelyn Thrift Aldrich, 85, of Waycross died Thursday evening (Jan. 23, 2014) at her residence after a short illness. She was born in Waycross to the late Lone and Virginia Bell Cox Thrift and lived here all of her life. Mrs. Aldrich graduated from Waycross High School in 1945. She was a longtime dedicated and loyal member of Whitehall Freewill Baptist Church where she was the piano player since 1969. Mrs. Aldrich always enjoyed crossword puzzles, cooking and crocheting.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Joe Lawton Aldrich; two sisters, Fannie Bush and Edna White; one brother, James L. "Buddy" Thrift.
Survivors include two children, David Aldrich and his wife Cindy of Hartwell, GA, Teresa Ammons of Hoboken; five grandchildren, Bradley Aldrich and his wife Heather of Hartwell, GA, Mandy Aldrich Barrett and her husband Daniel of Newnan, GA, Tara Thrift Eichfeld and her husband Joe of Hoboken, Hampton Ammons, II of Hoboken, Juston Ammons of Atlanta; four great grandchildren, Kayla Thrift, Hannah Thrift, Abby Barrett and Ansley Barrett; two sisters, Josie Bell Gordon of Waycross, and Cora Mae Allen of Waycross; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held Sunday afternoon at 4 pm at the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Kettle Creek Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 – 8 pm at the funeral home.
