JOSEPH `POPPY' BENTCH, born April 05, 1926 died peacefully on April 21, 2007 at St. Lukes Hospital in his native town of Houston, Texas. Poppy is a Naval Veteran of WWII. After the war, he began working in his family's furniture business. Several years later he went to work for Foleys and then Finger Furniture Company from which he retired 30 years later. He will best be remembered for the many pieces of furniture he built, the hundreds of pictures he's taken, the many hours of time spent with the Boy Scouts and his expansive commitments to the activities of the Ft. Bend and South Montgomery County YMCA Partners in Youth and Seniors Programs.

Poppy is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Rita Beth, his children and their spouses, Margie and Gary Landson, Lee J and Sherri Bentch, Arty and Nancy Bentch . His grandchildren Benjamin and Daniel Landson, Nina Gibson, Greg and Jason Bentch . His great grandchildren, Paige Bentch Pruitt and Shyanne Rose Gibson. His sister Rosalie Gossen and sister-in-law, June Bentch and numerous nieces and nephews.

Poppy was a member of Congregation Beth Yeshurun in Houston and Congregation Beth Shalom in The Woodlands, Texas.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday April 24, 2007 at the Beth Yeshurun Cemetery located at 1037 N, Post Oak Rd in Houston, TX. A Memorial Service will be held at Congregation Beth Shalom in The Woodlands, TX on Wednesday April 25, 2007 at 7:00 pm, 5125 Shadowbend Pl, The Woodlands, TX. Rabbi Jan M. Brahms officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Partners Program at the Shadowbend YMCA, The Woodlands, TX.
