WICHITA GIRL OF 3 KILLED IN CAR-CAB CRASH LAST NIGHT
Carol Sue Baker Suffers Fractured Skull in Collision at Ida,Morris
THREE ARE INJURED
Carol Sue Baker, 3-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claude I. Baker, 2337 South Washington, was killed about 8 o'clock last evening when the car in which she was riding with her father was struck by a Checker cab. Dr. Lang F. Bowman, Sedgwick county coroner, said the child died instantly from a basal skull fracture. The accident happened at the intersection of Morris and Ida.
Police Investigator Ancel L. Edison stated Mr. Baker was traveling south on Ida when the cab, operated by Otto A. Biehn, 26, of 1117 North Emporia, struck it. Biehn was going west on Morris.
The force of the impact turned the Baker car over twice, knocking it 31 feet. The cab continued for 60 feet, landing in a ditch on the other side of the street.
Baker suffered lacerations on his forehead, while another child, Betty Lorraine, 11, suffered a fractured left ankle. Biehn suffered only minor cuts and bruises.
The injured were taken to St. Francis hospital in a Broadway ambulance. The body of Carol Sue was taken to the Broadway mortuary, where funeral arrangements will be announced later.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by four sisters, Corinne, Colleen, Betty and Gynne, and four brothers, Keith, Claude Jr., Victor and Adrene, all of the home.
Police Investigator Edison said a thorough investigation was being made into the tragedy to determine if criminal charges can be filed against Biehn.
