Lucile Simpson Akin, age 92, of Atlanta, GA passed away on Thursday, January 25,
2007 after a brief illness. A native of Dekalb County, she was born on September
7, 1914 to Lula Weems Simpson and Homer Andrew Simpson, and called the "Oak
Grove Community" her home for over 70 years.

She graduated from Avondale High School as class valedictorian, where she met
her future husband Carl Akin, whom she married on his birthday in 1934. They
were married 50 years until his death in 1984. In addition to her husband, she
was predeceased by her two children, Carl Akin, Jr. and Carolyn Akin Griswell;
and three brothers.

Lucile was an active member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church, serving many
roles in the UMW, and a founding member of the Joy Sunday School Class. In
addition to her family, Lucile enjoyed her garden and extensive travels
throughout the United States.

She is survived by her granddaughter, Carla Courtney, and her husband Graham of
Atlanta; great-grandchildren, Caroline, Sarah, and John Courtney of Atlanta;
sisters, Alma Akin of Tucker, Margaret Mann of McDonough, and Mary Allgood, also
of Tucker; brother-in-law, Don and wife Mary Lou Akin; sister-in-law, Francis
and husband Bill Cardwell, both of Atlanta; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Oak Grove United Methodist Church at 2pm,
Monday, January 29, Dr. Gil Watson and Dr. David Hancock officiating. Burial
will be at Floral Hills Memory Gardens immediately following the service. The
family will receive friends from 6-8pm Saturday and 2-4pm on Sunday at A.S.
Turner & Sons.
