Susan Lamb, the only child of Lieut George A Lamb and his wife Sarah Noble Bankhead, was born on 10 November 1836 in Montgomery County, Texas. Her father had been killed seven months earlier at the Battle of San Jacinto during the Texas Revolution. Susan was raised, along with eight half siblings, by stepfather Jonathan McGary Sr. The family raised cotton in Walker County, Texas. Susan married Richard Marion Bankhead; they had two daughters, Margaret R and Georgia Frances. Susan Lamb Bankhead died, 27 February 1866, aged 29, in Walker County and was buried at Ebenezer Cemetery in Huntsville. Her widower married her older half sister.
