He was born April 23, 1940 in Berrien County to the late James Benjamin Bennett
and the late Mina Lou Nix Bennett. He retired from the United States Navy, an
active member of the VFW and of the Methodist faith. He was preceded in death by
his wife: Louise Bennett who died in 1997; step daughter: Joyce Bennett; and
brother: Ronnie Bennett.
He is survived by a step daughter: Cathy Bennett of Nashville; step son: John
Smith of Nashville; 5 sisters: Hilda (Donald) Tidwell of Ray City, Helen (Billy)
Crowley, Ann (Kenneth) Skinner, Bonnie (Mike) Jilcott, and Vanessa Bennett all
of Nashville; brother: Wayne (Cathy) Bennett of Nashville; numerous nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday September 26, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the
Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Rev. Danny Ray and Rev. Carl Morrison
officiating. Interment will follow in the Bennett Cemetery with full military
honors. Visitation is Thursday from 6-8. In lieu of flowers, please make
memorial contributions to the church of your choosing or to The Gideon's.
