The Rev. James L. Chestnut, 86, formerly of West Plains, but for some time had been making his home with a daughter, Mrs. W.E. Wilson at South Fork, died last night at the Wilson home. He had been in frail health for the last several months.
Rev. Chestnut, who was a minister of the Church of God, was a brother of the late Mrs. J.G. Meltabarger of West Plains. Besides the daughter at whose home he died, he also is survived by two sons, E.C. Chestnut, of Oklahoma City, OK; and J.J. Chestnut of Bristow, OK. A grandson, Earl Chestnut of Elkland, KS, arrived here last night in response to a message announcing his grandfather's critical condition.
The Rev. Chestnut was born March (s/b Nov) 13, 1848. He had been twice married, his last wife, whose death occurred two years ago, having been Mrs. Pet Yakley before her marriage to Rev. Chestnut.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon, and burial will be at Blue Mound Cemetery. Robertson's Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements.
